Called to belong, be holy … Part 2

Romans 1:5-7 NLT

[5] Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.

[6] And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ.

[7] I am writing to all of you in Rome who are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Reflection …

Our calling is twofold. We are called:

  1. To belong
  2. To be holy

Yesterday we noted that to belong means that we find purpose, meaning and hope in what we belong to. If we belong to Christ, then He is our purpose, meaning for life and our hope.

What does it mean to be holy?

To be holy means to be separate, set apart for sacred purposes — the work of God. It also means that we are being purified to be more like Christ.

As we look further into Romans we will find that being purified what is known as sanctification is something that has a similar dynamic like that between grace and faith. Grace is God’s doing and faith is our response. Sanctification is God’s doing and obedience is our response. Response to what? God’s great love lavished upon us in Jesus Christ!

We are called to the purposes of God and to live a life worthy of that calling.

The following video is a great overview in understanding holiness.
