Called to belong, to be holy … Part 1
Romans 1:5-7 NLT
Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.
And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ.
I am writing to all of you in Rome who are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.
We have a two part calling. We are called:
- To belong to God
- To be holy people of God
Today we consider what it means that we are called to belong to God. Tomorrow we’ll look at the second part of our calling.
The entire Gospel is based on this truth that we have been separated from God because of sin. God’s love is so great that He made a way for us to be reconciled to Himself through Jesus Christ. The greatness of that love calls us into relationship with Him. The Great Commission is all about getting us to participate in God’s call to those who have yet to know Him.
Paul writes this letter with such strong conviction from the outset that there is a missionary call for us all to be involved in. Whether we are hearing the Good News for the first time or giving our all to share the Gospel so others hear the call of God on their lives, we are called to believe and grow in faith.
To belong is to be fully embraced or integrated into in order to find meaning. To belong to something or someone means that we are inextricably bound so that our purpose, meaning and hope is found in that person or thing.
To whom or what do you belong ?
