Common Sense . . .

Proverbs 2:6-8 NLT

[6] For the LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

[7] He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.

[8] He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.

Reflection . .

Common Sense doesn’t seem to be so common these days. You may recall the saying, “It’s just common sense!” In today’s society, what used to be common is no longer common and familiar. We need to look to Scripture to find true common sense.

Yesterday, in the verses leading up to these verses today, we noticed that we need to ask for wisdom and understanding. Here we are assured that the Lord gives wisdom to those who ask and He will impart knowledge and understanding. To the honest, He gives a treasure of common sense and it is grounded completely in Him and His Word.

He gives a shield and protection as covering for those who walk with integrity and are faithful. Integrity and faithfulness are not values highly desired these days, but they are essential for maintaining developing the treasure of the Lord’s common sense that is so desperately needed in our time.
