Into Practice . . .

He Renews my Strength . . .

Psalm 23:1-6 NLT

[1] The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

[2] He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.

[3] He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

[4] Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

[5] You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.

[6] Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.

Reflection . . .

He renews my strength. It’s easy to say, it’s not so easy to experience, especially when we are overwhelmed by everyday events and experiences that drain us of our energy and ability to find rest. Finding rest and strength in the Lord takes a refocusing of our minds and attitudes to allow the Lord to speak to us through His Word.

What is the key to finding strength in the Lord? The first verse of this Psalm is key . . .

Finding everything we need in the Lord our Shepherd.

When we allow the Lord to guide us and lead us, we will want for nothing. We experience the goodness and mercy of the Lord when we depend fully upon His guiding and leading us each day. To rest, we must stop what we are doing and pause. To be led, we must let go of our need to be in control of the journey — then we find peace! To find renewal, we must let His ways, His Word and His Spirit challenge and change our minds (Romans 12:1-2).
