Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

When God restores . . .

Psalm 53:1-6 NLT

[1] Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!

[2] God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God.

[3] But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!

[4] Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to God.

[5] Terror will grip them, terror like they have never known before. God will scatter the bones of your enemies. You will put them to shame, for God has rejected them.

[6] Who will come from Mount Zion to rescue Israel? When God restores his people, Jacob will shout with joy, and Israel will rejoice.

Reflection . . .

Sometimes it seems like everyone is saying “There is no God” with their mouths or by their actions. Everyone seems so foolish! Everyone seems so corrupt! Everyone seems to be consumed by evil. And, so the vicious cycle of that kind of thinking goes!

We may look around and see so much that is against God and His purposes, but God’s people look to Him and will be rescued. The final verse says, “When”, not IF God restores his people. God has sent His Son Jesus, The Rescuer and because of Him we can rejoice!

This week, let’s not focus so much on the negative forces around us that keep us from rejoicing in the hope we have in Christ. Yes, we should be aware of what’s going on in the world around us, but let’s not let it steal our focus and joy. Our hope is in the Lord, not in those who do not put their hope in Him.
