Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Fixing our gaze . . .

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NLT

[16] That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.

[17] For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

[18] So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Reflection . . .

Sometimes we feel tired and weary in our bodies as well as our spirits. When we feel refreshed in spirit, we can feel very young and full of energy even though our bodies tell us otherwise. In Christ we are being renewed each day. When we look to Him and keep our gaze firmly fixed on Him our spirits are renewed.

Those who focus on physical exercise tell us that even the body renews itself when it is exercised properly and receives good nutrition. If one is fortunate enough, their body may live longer and have a happier, healthier existence, but that is not a guarantee. Our physical and spiritual beings are one, they are not separated no matter how much we might like to think so. Our physical bodies are decaying in this world, but our spirits can be renewed every day, and one day will be fully refreshed receiving new physical bodies as well.

So, let’s not get caught up and focused on the things of this world and the troubles we may be experiencing which will not last, let’s focus on the things we cannot see, that will last forever! How exciting is that!
