Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Eagerly Waiting . . .

Philippians 3:17-21 NLT

[17] Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example.

[18] For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ.

[19] They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth.

[20] But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.

[21] He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Reflection . . .

Paul strongly warns the Philippians to live godly and not follow the teachings and behaviors of those who are really enemies of Christ. Amidst Paul’s strong warning is verse 20 stating what a great hope we have in Christ as citizens of heaven and children of God. It’s such a great encouragement for us. Those who are enemies of Christ do not have that hope because their attention is focused on the pleasures of this world.

When we offer ourselves completely to the Lord, we experience a delight in the Lord and the things of the Lord unlike any other. We get so bombarded by the news, the advertisements around us everyday, that it’s hard to keep focus on the hope we have in Him. Take heart, the Lord is faithful! We can be confident in His promises, not in the promises of mere humans!

God offers Himself, gives Himself away, to the wholehearted who give themselves wholly to Him.
