Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Your hearts desire . . .

Psalm 37:1-7 NLT

[1] Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong.

[2] For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither.

[3] Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.

[4] Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.

[5] Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.

[6] He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

[7] Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Reflection . . .

Will the Lord really give us the desires of our hearts?

The end of verse 4 . . . “and he will give you your heart’s desires” is preceded and followed by some important stuff!

  • We must Trust in the Lord and do good
  • We must take delight in the Lord.
  • We must commit everything to the Lord.

Sounds pretty straight forward, right?!

We can all attest to the fact that it’s way more difficult than we care to admit! When we do these things, the promise of God is sure! He will grant us the desires of our hearts because the desires of our hearts are for Him alone, and what He desires! He becomes our joy and delight!

Joy in God is both the root and the fruit of faith. . . . Christ himself has become a treasure chest of holy joy. The tree of faith grows only in the heart that craves the supreme gift that Christ died to give; not health, not wealth, not prestige, but God!
