Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

God produces fruit . . .

Psalm 1:1-6 NLT

[1] Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.

[2] But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night.

[3] They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

[4] But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.

[5] They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly.

[6] For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.

Reflection . . .

We’ve looked at this Psalm a few times over the past year. It’s packed full of great truths and guidance to help us on our journey!

When we are meditating on God’s Word, we are in the process of growing! We start the process of producing fruit. It’s not our doing, but God’s work in us! He is changing us. Just a like a tree by streams of water is nourished by the abundant water nearby, so we can be nourished by the Lord when we meditate and delight in His Word. The nutrients change who we are, helping us grow. That is the work of the Holy Spirit of God in us.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Galatians 5:22-23 NLT

So, for us, what’s the key thing to keep in mind?

  • Meditate on God’s Word and Delight in it!
