Reflecting on God’s Word …

Jesus is Love …

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT

Love is patient and kind.

Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Reflection

1 Corinthians 13 is known as the Love Chapter of the Bible. It is used at wedding ceremonies and events where love is the focus. The focus is often this intangible thing we call love which is based on people’s emotions and state of being. Such a focus is dangerous and lacks both faith and hope. This chapter in the Bible ends with Faith, Hope, and Love where love is the strongest and greatest, but without Faith and Hope it lacks direction and substance. Love is the greatest because it is what is put into action, the expression of what’s inside.

We can only grasp and begin to understand God’s great love for us through Jesus Christ when our hearts are humble and receptive to it. Then, we will have faith not just in something or someone, but in the One who really matters. Then, we will have an everlasting hope in Jesus, God’s expression of his great love for us.

Then, we can claim these attributes of Love working and growing in our lives.

Then, we will know His patience and kindness.

Then we will be more familiar with His way, His justice, His truth, and experience His faithfulness.

. . . Faith and Hope in Him, and His Love at work in us!
