Reflecting on God’s Word …

Jesus, Healer …

Luke 4:38-41 NLT

After leaving the synagogue that day, Jesus went to Simon’s home, where he found Simon’s mother-in-law very sick with a high fever.

“Please heal her,”

everyone begged. Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and prepared a meal for them. As the sun went down that evening, people throughout the village brought sick family members to Jesus. No matter what their diseases were, the touch of his hand healed every one. Many were possessed by demons; and the demons came out at his command, shouting,

“You are the Son of God!”

But because they knew he was the Messiah, he rebuked them and refused to let them speak.

Jesus, Son of God! Healer of the sick!

What people have so often searched for and longed for is to find only healing for themselves, and not find satisfaction in the Healer.

In this passage, Jesus heals Simon’s mother in law and she gets up and starts serving. What an amazing response to Christ’s touch of healing. Many are self seeking in their pursuit for healing and have no real desire to follow or seek to know the Jesus, the Healer.

What is our intention when it comes to asking anything of the Lord? Is it to know Him more or serve Him better? Or, is it self serving? Let’s take a close look at why we ask for what we do!
