Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Acceptable Worship . . .

Romans 12:1-5 NLT

[1] And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

[2] Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

[3] Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.

[4] Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,

[5] so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

Reflection . . .

We are part of Christ’s Body. That means what we do makes a difference in ourselves and it affects others. We each have a special function within the Body of Christ but we cannot function apart from one another. Since these verses are connected to the the first few verses of this chapter, we must conclude that functioning as part of the Body of Christ is essential for our transformation — being transformed into a new person by changing the way you think (vs. 2)! Other people are part of that transformational process!

So, we are to . . .

  • live sacrificially because of what God has done for us
  • not copy the behaviours/traditions of the world
  • let God transform us by changing the way we think
  • not to think we are better than we really are
  • measure ourselves by the faith God’s given us
  • belong to one another

Wow! That’s powerful stuff! Take some time to ponder this list and ask the Lord for help and guidance as you strive for these things in your faith!
