Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Pay Attention . . .

Luke 8:16-18 NLT

[16] “No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.

[17] For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.

[18] “So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”

Reflection . . .

As children of the Light, we are to shine our light, not hide it. We are to do good things so that other will see the Lord, not for our own glory, but for His!

Verse 18 is key for us in understanding that life is not just about what we do, what we see, or what are involved in, rather “How” we do, see and are involved. We are to pay attention to how we hear. What does it mean to pay attention to “How” we hear?

It means, thinking, evaluating and seeing everything through the lens of Jesus’ teaching, through the Holy Spirit living in us. It’s not just taking everything at face value and accepting that it is good, true or otherwise. It is about trusting Jesus to show us what is true and good, and how He desires us to respond to it.

Let’s take a few moments to listen to the song below and then pray and ask the Lord to show you how to respond to whatever situation you find yourself in right now, in Jesus’ name.
