Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

New Year’s Blessing!

Numbers 6:24-26 NLT

‘May the LORD bless you and protect you.

May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you.

May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace.’

Reflection . . .

May the Lord bless you!

As we begin 2022, what better way to start than asking the Lord’s blessing on others. Blessing is not something we are used to in our culture. We tend to be more carefree in just wishing people well. Blessing is a serious thing! To bless someone is not just to wish someone well or hope things go well with them, it is much broader in scope.

To bless is to in a sense “make holy” by prayer, to set apart as having the favour of God. It is to ask God to take care of, protect and guard that person. To bless is to pronounce God’s goodness and abundance on that person. It is to ask for God’s peace to rest upon that person. Blessing someone is getting involved in the Grace of God. We ask that God would grant His grace to that person in a special way.

Blessing is amazing! Blessing is not to be taken lightly, it is to be done in all seriousness and with great joy and expectation that God fulfills His promise to bless us His people. By blessing others, we participate in the grace and peace of God on other people.
