Philippians 1:20-24 NLT
For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.
For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better.
But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better.
I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me.
But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live.
Reflection . . .
The Apostle Paul writes this letter to the Philippians and in these verses talks about desiring to go to be with the Lord, “dying is even better”, and for him, to live means living for Christ.
What does it mean to live for Christ?
Living for Christ means that everything, everything we do, think and are is for Christ, in Christ, through Christ, and with Christ. All of life is about Jesus Christ! To die is better because he will be with Jesus, but for him to live is better for others, to fulfill the purpose God has for his life in proclaiming the gospel.
Is your hope in Christ alone, or is it in other people or things?
