Reflecting on God’s Word . . . .

Luke 22:24-27 NLT

Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here!

For I am among you as one who serves.

Reflection . . .

Jesus’ teaching turns human wisdom upside-down! We think those who are greater are those who have positions, wealth and power. Jesus teaches us that those who are the greatest in the Kingdom of God are those who take the lowest position, the poor in spirit, the one who serves!

We all know people and situations where those who have positions and wealth get the best seats, they are the ones who run for politics, the ones whose voice gets attention in the media, the leaders who push to get their perspectives accepted. Jesus taught with great authority and wisdom because He put into practice his teachings which were “out of this world”.

Jesus came not to be served, but to serve.

He came to give his life as a ransom for us all!

It is an amazing thing to know and follow Him; it’s even more amazing to put His teachings into practice letting them transform not only our thinking but our actions!

To be a servant like our Servant King.
