Psalm 39:4-7 NLT
“LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered- how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.”
We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
Life is fleeting! Life is short! Life is but a breath away!
We need purpose in our lives and looking to the Lord gives us purpose, a reason and hope for living!
The Psalmist has the right perspective. His Only hope is in the Lord! If our only hope is in the Lord then we shouldn’t be looking to other things or people for hope or fulfillment. All those things and people disappoint in comparison to the hope we experience with the Lord as our guide, hope and salvation.
Where do you go in difficult times?
Who do you look to when things are going well?
What gives you comfort when you need it?
Adjusting our perspective to see the Lord as our only hope in all things means we have to let go of the benefits we get from those things and begin looking to Him and what He desires for us. It means we need to let go of the focus on ourselves and get our gaze firmly on the Lord!
Christ our only hope in life and death!
