James 2:14-17 NLT
What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,
and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
Reflection . . .
Faith and Works.
These verses make it pretty clear that faith is dead unless good works are present as a result of faith.
The example in verses 15-16 is excellent! How many times have we said that or even walked past someone thinking that very thing without helping or doing some good?
Faith is essential because faith is the vehicle through which God’s grace is received!
Doing good things for others is essential because it shows that our faith is real, at work in us to depend on the Lord to supply our own needs and help those who are in need. We are the hands and feet that God chooses to use to bless others, to be a blessing to the world and show His transformative power to change lives.
