Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Romans 13:11-14 NLT

[11] This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

[12] The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.

[13] Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to see. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy.

[14] Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires.

Reflection . . .

In summary, these verses are saying . . .

Wake up, time is short, so don’t spend your time trying to gratify immoral and fleshly desires. Instead, live a life worthy of the presence of Jesus Christ!

These words seem a bit harsh for those who seem to think that they live good lives, however, anything that isn’t glorifying to the Lord is of the flesh. The word, “Instead” packs a lot of punch. It takes everything beforehand and then gives the right way to see tings, the right way to live. “Clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.” What does that mean?

Jesus is always with us, his spirit dwells within us if we believe in him and place our trust in him. So what does it mean to “clothe” ourselves with his presence? It means, we are to live life with him as the focus of everything we do. Ask ourselves, “Is what I’m doing right now honouring and glorifying to the Lord?” His presence is seen in us when we live according to what he desires for us, and we can only do it in and through Him.
