Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Romans 16:17-20 NLT

[17] And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them.

[18] Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people.

[19] But everyone knows that you are obedient to the Lord. This makes me very happy. I want you to be wise in doing right and to stay innocent of any wrong.

[20] The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.

Warning: False Teachers, stay away!

False teachers are everywhere these days. They do just as Paul teaches here. They do not serve the Lord, they serve their own personal interests. They talk smooth, and the teaching they promote sounds good at first glance, but they deceive innocent people.

How can we stay away from these False Teachers?

First, we can study and learn the Scriptures. Get to know the Word of God so that you can identify their false teachings readily. It takes time and effort and it is not easy to make His Word a priority for every day, but when we do the Holy Spirit will teach us, and we will not be innocent people depending others for what is in God’s Word. We can know it for ourselves, be students of it!

Second, we can pray about everything we learn from the Bible. It’s what we should always do, whether it’s what we learn for ourselves, learn at church or from anyone! Pray, pray, pray! The Holy Spirit will guide us in what is true and keep us in communion with the Lord.

Study and learn God’s Word – Pray and be guided by the Holy Spirit.
