Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Psalm 23:1-6 NLT

[1] The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

[2] He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.

[3] He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

[4] Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

[5] You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.

[6] Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.

Reflection . . .

The past couple days we’ve looked at this Psalm in parts. Today, the last two vereses.

What does the Lord do for us according to these verses?

The Lord honours us . . . He prepares a feast for us so that all can see the blessing He has placed on His own. He honours us by anointing our heads — meaning He sets us apart for His purposes and His glory!

The Lord blesses us . . . He fills our lives with joy and the blessings of knowing Him and being led by Him. He blesses us with His goodness — good things will fill our lives as we walk in His paths. He blesses us with His unfailing love (mercy)! This is perhaps the best news and experience of all! God’s mercy is ultimately experienced in and through Jesus Christ on the cross — His salvation, His mercy will pursue us all our days and we’ll be with Him forever!!
