Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Psalm 23:1-6 NLT

[1] The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

[2] He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.

[3] He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

[4] Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

[5] You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.

[6] Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.

Reflection . . .

We’ll look at this Psalm for the next couple days a few verses at a time.

Verses 1 – 3 give us some statements on who God is to us.

The Lord is our Shepherd . . . He is the one who guides us, leads us and provides for us. He gives us everything we need. If the Lord is our Shepherd we have everything, He will provide all we need in this life. The key for us is to acknowledge Him as our Shepherd and not run a muck doing our own thing! We have to listen and the only way we are going to be able to listen to Him is to take time out of the noise of our daily lives to look to Him.

The Lord leads us . . . He leads us to places where we can rest, quiet places without distraction — for what purpose? Well, for sheep, they only eat when they are calm and at rest, otherwise they get scared and won’t eat. So, He leads us to feed and we are to feed on His Word in a quiet, place where we can focus.

The Lord renews our strength . . . Our strength is renewed by putting into practice the nourishment we receive from His word. When we obey His Word, we walk in right paths bringing honour to His name.
