Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Psalm 24:1-6 NLT
[1] The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.

[2] For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths.

[3] Who may climb the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place?

[4] Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies.

[5] They will receive the LORD’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior.

[6] Such people may seek you and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob.

Reflection . . .

Verse 4 is essential for us to take to heart! It talks about having clean hands before God. Clean hands is a metaphor for having pure lives before Him, not just the dirt washed off our physical hands. For us, that means we need to maintain a right relationship before the Lord, confess our sins and our shortcomings before Him so that we can keep in communion with Him.

Confession, asking for cleansing and turning from our sin is what we call repentance. It’s not just a one time thing we do when we become Christians. When we believe and accept what Jesus has for us, we commit to a life of repentance. Many so called believers fail to realize that living the Christian life means living a life of repentance before the Lord. It’s the only way we can fully live, truly worship (verse 6).
