Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Plumb Tree – really delicious!

Colossians 2:6-7 NLT

[6] And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.

[7] Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Reflection . . .

What does it mean to “let your roots grow down into him?”

We are to grow in our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. He is our Lord, our Saviour, and he is God himself!

To grow in our relationship with him means we have to cultivate that connection through prayer (conversation with him), reading and reflection on His Word (the Bible), and perhaps most importantly, putting it into practice so that He can do a work of transforming our lives for His purposes and His glory!

Why is it so important that we mature and grow deep roots in our faith? It’s so critical for us as believers to do so because we have decided to follow Jesus by placing our faith and trust in Him, and because in order to faithfully follow Him we need to be strong and not let anything take our focus off of Him and His teaching.

We are not going to know and grow in Him unless we become so familiar with His Word that we are able to discern what teachings are in line with His Word and which teachings are false.
