Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Luke 4:31-37 NLT
[31] Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day. [32] There, too, the people were amazed at his teaching, for he spoke with authority. [33] Once when he was in the synagogue, a man possessed by a demon—an evil spirit—cried out, shouting, [34] “Go away! Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” [35] But Jesus reprimanded him. “Be quiet! Come out of the man,” he ordered. At that, the demon threw the man to the floor as the crowd watched; then it came out of him without hurting him further. [36] Amazed, the people exclaimed, “What authority and power this man’s words possess! Even evil spirits obey him, and they flee at his command!” [37] The news about Jesus spread through every village in the entire region.

Reflection . . .

The demons know who Jesus is! They believe in him too! They know that in Jesus there is greater power and they fear him. They ask Jesus to leave them alone and not destroy them. They know what there destiny is — destruction!

Jesus is the Holy One of God! He has the power and authority to cast demons out and destroy them. He orders the demon to come out of the the man and they obey! What an amazing demonstration of power! They were all amazed!

Jesus has the ability, authority and power to clean up people’s lives. What is in your life that is not healthy, or perhaps some sin or temptation that keeps getting in the way of living your best for Jesus? Name it and offer it to the Lord. Ask him for forgiveness, cleansing, restoration and the ability to walk in obedience to his will. Pray earnestly that way and see what the Lord does!
