Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

John 3:16-21 NLT
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants. ”

Reflection . . .

Here we have possibly the most popular verse from the Bible, John 3:16. It expresses the extent of God’s love for us and the way we can receive His love for us.

God gave his one and only Son, Jesus so that we can have eternal life.

We receive eternal life by believing in Jesus.

The key concept in this passage is that we receive God’s love for us by believing in Jesus Christ. It’s about the blessings of believing and the consequences of unbelief.

Believing is seeing, comprehending and accepting what God has done for us through Jesus Christ — giving his life in our place so that we can come to Him, know Him, be transformed by Him and be rescued from sin and its consequences of death and separation from God.

Unbelief is not seeing, not comprehending or accepting God’s great love for us through the work of Jesus Christ.

The following video is a version of Psalm 23. The refrain expresses the response desired by John 3:16 — “I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You, I will trust in You alone . . .”
