Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

Psalm 89:14-18 NLT
[14] Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants.

[15] Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, LORD.

[16] They rejoice all day long in your wonderful reputation. They exult in your righteousness.

[17] You are their glorious strength. It pleases you to make us strong.

[18] Yes, our protection comes from the LORD, and he, the Holy One of Israel, has given us our king.

Reflection . . .

So many of today’s churches focus only on God’s love. Such a focus is not a true understanding of who He is. He is love, yes that’s absolutely true, but He is also Righteous and Just! Without acknowledging these characteristics in God, we become convinced that God is able to permit all kinds of things and that there are no consequences for sin.

Verse 14 says, Righteousness and Justice are the foundation of God’s throne and His unfailing love and truth are the way He acts. This truth is very freeing indeed! It means that God acts in love and truth out of all that is right and just. We most often think we know what is right, just and true, and how acts of love should look (or shouldn’t look), but we are not God and unless we worship and rejoice in who He is (verses 15 – 16) — all that He is, we will not know His glorious strength or protection.

Walking in the light of His presence (vs. 15) . . .

Means exalting in His righteousness (vs. 16)!
