Psalm 84:1-4 NLT
How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the LORD. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!
What joy for those who can live in your house, always singing your praises.
Reflection . . .
God dwells with His people. In Christ Jesus and throught the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, we experience the presence of the Lord with us. So, what does it mean for us to “faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord”? As verse three points out it means living and dwelling near the altar of the Lord. The altar of the Lord is the place of sacrifice, where we lay down all we have and are before the Lord to worship Him and Serve Him alone.
In this Psalm, we are invited to eagerly long to come with joy to that place where we offer everything, openly and honestly before the Lord! Wow! For all of us, that’s a very secret and vulnerable place, and that’s exactly where God can fill us and work in us.
