Reflecting on God’s Word . . .

1 John 2:15-17 NLT
Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

Reflection . . .

What a hard thing to let go of — loving this world. We find ourselves living in it, working in it, having our family in it, enjoy the things it has to offer, etc.!! Yet, here it says, “Don’t love this work nor the things it offers.” The main point here is this: Loving the world takes away from our love for God the Father.

So, how do we not love the world? We focus our attention more and more on God and His love for us! It requires a change of mindset, a change of behaviour and a change of priorities. it requires us to focus on what pleases God and then obey Him. No one said it would be easy! The promises of God are not easy! His promises are simple, yet difficult! They are free, but will cost us everything! God doesn’t want our stuff, He wants us!
