Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
Reflection . . .
Running a race takes discipline in preparation. It takes planning and training. Endurance comes with disciplined training and commitment to the race. That is what these verses are getting at — an endurance race to accomplish what God has in store for us!
So how can we run when we are uncertian of the finishline, the check points along the way? We are running by faith afterall and that kind of race doesn’t have the visual checkpoints or finish line. We run by faith, not by sight, doing each day what we know is right and what God has put before us to accomplish; to be salt and light in a dark world. Above all, we keep our eyes on Jesus who is our champion and perfects our faith!
