Luke 8:1-3 NLT
Soon afterward Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages, preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God. He took his twelve disciples with him, along with some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases. Among them were Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons; Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s business manager; Susanna; and many others who were contributing from their own resources to support Jesus and his disciples.
Reflection . . .
This passage is often overlooked. The women in this passage do something amazing! They supported Jesus’ ministry and his disciples out of their own means. What does that mean?
Well, it meant that they gave financial support to help cover the costs of their travelling/staying from place to place. Most likely also meant that they provided food and shelter as well!
So what does this mean for us today? It points to the fact that as followers of Jesus we need to be committed to and be involved in supporting ministry and ministry workers with our time, energy and our money!
